
Innovation Reactor 2017
Interested in innovation, startups, or just plain curious? Do you have a big challenge that requires a solution? Are you a team looking for problem solvers? Are you looking to create a new group or join an existing team? Do you want to hear about others big challenges and join the team forming discussions? Do you want to be part of the growing Calgary innovation community? If so, come to the 2017 Innovation Reactor, where we connect “solutions and solvers” to “substantial innovation challenges and problems.”
We’ve invited several amazing speakers from current and past startup company teams to talk about their motivations, their experiences and some interesting areas ripe for innovation. Remember to check back frequently for speaker updates.
New to this year’s Reactor are the finals of two early stage pitch competitions. Selected from over twenty entries, six finalist teams, mostly composed of students, will compete for the Calgary Tesla Society Award and the Hunter Hub Student Innovation Award. Be sure to stay for these exciting competitions and find out who wins!The following teams will be pitching their ideas in the following prize categories:
Calgary Tesla Society Award (awarded to the group with technologies based around hardware and other elements):
- Bclean (wearable tech to prevent hospital borne infections)
- Doppio (duel-screened smart watch)
- Organic Photocells (dye based photocells)
Hunter Hub Student Innovation Award (awarded to the group with the best app based technology):
- Parkchamp (app to reinvent the parking experience)
- Soru (promoting cultural diversity through a food sharing app)
- MJam (social network to pair-up musicians/music students)

The 2017 Innovation Reactor is hosted and organized by the Faculty of Science and Skunkworks Cooperative; and supported by the University of Calgary’s Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation in the Haskayne School of Business, the Hunter Hub, W21C and Innovate Calgary.
